ART Technology: long-term effects?

My husband and I have wondered about the long term effects of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART). Unfortunately, there's not a lot of data collected to show whether or not there are long term effects -- positive or negative ones. More specifically, we have wondered if our fertility problems (e.g., poor sperm motility) would be passed down to our children -- provided we had a child via in vitro fertilization (IVF). These are questions that have yet to be definitively answered. We have asked our fertility specialists these questions, but always get the same answer, "There's no evidence that your child will be affected. We just don't have the studies to know."
I think the answer is obvious, but people don't want to think about it. I'm no doctor but I think the answer is YES, your child will more than likely inherit whatever bad genetic code you possess. When you use your own egg and sperm to make an embryo the genetic code of that embryo is the blueprint for your baby-to-be.
It's just like baking. If you use rotten eggs in cake batter, then your cake is going to taste funky. It's all about having good and fresh ingredients.
