PCOS Treatment and Awareness Petition

There is a petition for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) Treatment and Awareness going around. Please take a moment to sign the petition, helping to generate more awareness about PCOS. I personally don't have PCOS, but know women who do and I am here to support their cause. PCOS is a hormone disorder that causes cysts on the ovaries preventing most women from being able to get pregnant. It is the most common hormonal disorder among women of reproductive age, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Symptoms of PCOS:
  • Irregular menstrual cycles - longer than 35 days; fewer than eight cycles/year; not having a cycle; and prolonged periods that may be scant or heavy.
  • Excess male hormones excess facial and body hair; adult acne or severe adolescent acne; and male-pattern baldness.
  • Enlarged ovaries containing numerous small cysts. To be diagnosed with PCOS, you must also have abnormal menstrual cycles or signs of excess male hormones.
  • Infertility - having trouble becoming pregnant because of infrequent ovulation or a lack of ovulation. PCOS is the most common cause of female infertility.
  • Obesity - 50% of the women with polycystic ovary syndrome are obese.
  • Prediabetes or type 2 diabetes - many women with polycystic ovary syndrome are insulin resistant, which impairs the body's ability to use insulin effectively to regulate blood sugar. This can result in high blood sugar and type 2 diabetes.
  • Darkened, velvety skin on the nape of your neck, armpits, inner thighs, vulva or under your breasts. This skin condition is a sign of insulin resistance. (Source: www.MayoClinic.com)

Welcome Lesley,

Well, I'm to old for this disease (I have enough from being middle-aged -lol), but I have a friend whose daughter has it - and it's tough because she does want to have a baby.

In yoour other blog - your Bischon's are so cute - another type of dog to get attached too!

Hi Sandie,
It's so good to hear from you this morning.;)
I write on prayer, spirituality and women's issues.
Right now, I'm writing a narrative nonfiction book in which I use storytelling to share my personal challenges and other couples’ struggles with pregnancy loss and infertility. I'm so excited because I'm almost finished writing the entire book and now I'm seeking a literary agent to represent me to publishers.

I'm also a contributing writer for BECOMING 2: THE COMPLETE NEW TESTAMENT (2nd edition), a Biblezine from Thomas Nelson Bibles....that's the book you see on the masthead of my blog.

I really like your posts and look forward to reading more. Have a great day!

love,
Lesley
