I've been reading about copyrights, so I'm informed and know how to use it. At the Southern California Writer's Conference I attended a great workshop on legal issues for authors. One of the things I learned is that you can't copyright a recipe. I was surprised. If I labor in the kitchen all day creating a fabulous coconut flan, I do not have the right to copyright my recipe. Why? Because the recipe is considered to be a "list" and that list isn't protected under the law. When you take all of your fabulously favorite recipes and put them in a cookbook, then you can copyright the entire collection of recipes. That's when you have all the rights in the world. So, start collecting those recipes and run down to your local printer to have them bound and duplicated!
Copyright Tip of The Day:
There's no copyright symbol on my keyboard and I have no clue if there's a symbol in my preferences or fonts. So, here's how to insert the copyright symbol on a MAC....
- Type these keys together: "option" + "G"
Here's how to insert the copyright symbol on a PC....
- Hold down these keys: Control + Alt + "C"

Thanks for reading. I'm going to also talk about Trademarks and more about copyright in the weeks to come...;)
Wow, Lesley, that is a most useful piece of advice. I'm always looking around for that symbol. What I used to do, was find one on the internet and copy and paste it into my doc. Then, I discovered "insert symbol" on Word, which is a much better way to do it. But your way is best of all. Thanks!
